Our job has given us so many exciting opportunities and I never know where the next phone call will take us. However I definitely wasn’t prepared for this particular job. I always thought of myself as spontaneous but the idea of turning up at the airport at 5am to fly to an unknown destination with a group of strangers who were also unsure of the plan seemed a little daunting. Mark (the groom) insisted we come, so Suz and I boarded the plane and I’m so glad we did. What unfolded over the next 48 hours we will never forget. Meeting the most amazing people, drinking the best coffee, visiting the beautiful town of Civitavecchia, and catching lunch at the top of the Spanish Steps before flying home. We were truly blessed. Trying to take photos with BBC One’s Don’t Tell The Bride team surrounding the couple meant we could do very little and we were constantly second guessing what was going to happen next. This was frustrating at times (considering we were in the most romantic city in the world!) However this was a different kind of wedding experience and as the sun set over Rome we were able to capture the bridal party and ensure Kelly and Mark had some great memories. The beautiful Kelly was a dream to photograph, as usual! After years of taking her pictures in the studio it felt right to be there to capture her wedding day. Working with a bride that loves creating images is always a bonus and we were so relieved Mark had chosen a fairytale dress that she felt amazing in. After the newlyweds set sail, the wedding guests gathered for supper in the town and we chatted like we had known each other for years. A group of strangers, now friends, toasting a great adventure and very different kind of wedding day.
