As we walked to the photo location we were chatting about the book ‘The five love languages’. Scott and Adeline agreed that their’s was ‘quality time’ which made this engagement shoot even more precious than usual. Adeline was visiting fiancé Scott from her home in New York and felt like an engagement shoot would create a lovely memory to share together. So Scott planned the location in what he referred to as his ‘back garden’… the rugged hills, reservoir’s and woodland of Rivington. This place is huge but Scott knew every inch of it and gave us a guided tour with his gorgeous dog Lacey. The shoot took place with the castle ruins in the background. A sharp contrast to Adelines upbringing in Manhattan.
How they met
Scott, from Bolton, England, spent 3 months working at a summer camp in America in 2013. After camp, he travelled the east coast of the United States and ended his travels on a cruise from NYC to the Caribbean with his father. The cruise designated passengers a specific time and table for dinner each evening. The first evening of the cruise, Scott and his father turned up to their table to realise they would be dining with other passengers. One of whom, was Adeline from New York, who was on vacation with her three friends. Scott went all shy! As the days went on, Scott and Adeline began to talk more and more, and spent the last evening talking as they watched the sun rise over the Manhattan skyline.
They both said their goodbyes, not knowing if they would ever see each other again. But they kept in touch daily over the internet, video calling regularly. Knowing they shared something special, they decided to meet again. So in February 2014 Scott flew back to NYC. From that moment, they never looked back, boarding planes every other month and video calling every night. The following Christmas, Scott and Adeline went to their favourite spot in Brooklyn that overlooks the Manhattan skyline. And so, after being 3,500 miles apart, Scott asked Adeline to marry him.
